Some residents of northern Poland should expect further heavy snowfall and snowstorms in recent days on Saturday. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued warnings. Forecasters also warn against icy roads in almost the entire country.

IMWM warnings – icing

First degree anti-icing alerts apply in the following voivodeships:

  • Pomeranian;
  • West Pomeranian Voivodeship;
  • Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship,
  • Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship,
  • Greater Poland;
  • Lubuskie;
  • Lower Silesia;
  • Opole province;
  • Silesian;
  • Łódź;
  • Lesser Polandoutside the Tatra County;
  • Podkarpackie;
  • Masovian Voivodeship;
  • Świętokrzyskie;
  • Lublin Province;
  • Podlasie.

In some places, icing may occur on wet road surfaces and sidewalks after wet snowfall. The minimum temperature will be from -5 to -2 degrees Celsius, and the temperature at the ground will be from -6 to -3 degrees C, locally -8 degrees C.

IMWM warnings – heavy snowfall

Forecasters predict heavy snowfall in the north of the country. The lowest level warnings were issued for the following voivodeships:

  • Pomeraniancounties: Koszalin, KoszalinSławno;
  • West Pomeranian Voivodeshipoutside the following counties: Puck, Gdańsk, Gdańsk, Sopot, GdyniaNowy Dwór, Malbork, Tczew, Sztum, Kwidzyn;
  • Warmian-Masurian Voivodeshipin the following counties: Elbląg, ElblągBraniewo, Bartoszycki, Lidzbark, Olsztyn, OlsztynMrągowo, Kętrzyn, Węgorzewo, Giżycko, Gołdap.

IMWM warnings – strong wind

Yellow warnings are also in force in northern Poland due to strong winds. They concern coastal districts of voivodeships West Pomeranian Voivodeship and Pomeranian.

In the coastal zone, winds are expected to blow at an average speed of up to 45 kilometers per hour, with gusts of up to 85 km/h. The warnings will be valid until 17 on Saturday.
