An off-duty policeman saved a 69-year-old woman who, despite the fire, was sleeping, unaware of the danger. The officer broke the window and helped the senior woman evacuate, and then took out the gas cylinder. In a fire in Kasina Wielka (Lesser Poland Voivodeship), a farm building along with a car and part of a house burned down.
On Sunday after 6.30 a.m., firefighters received a report about a fire in a farm building in Kasina Wielka in the Limanowa district.
– A lot of forces and resources were dispatched to the site, 11 teams. The building was completely engulfed in fire. Nearby there was a house where an elderly woman lived alone. Our activities focused on defending the residential building. Unfortunately, the part directly adjacent to the burning object burned down – told us senior captain Wojciech Bogacz, deputy commander of the rescue and fire-fighting unit of the Limanowa fire brigade.

A policeman saved an elderly resident
The bathroom and one of the rooms in the house burned down. The second room and the kitchen were saved.
Despite the raging flames, the resident of the building, unaware of the threat, was sleeping. She was helped by a policeman who was on his way to the police station in Mszana Dolna and noticed a fire on the way.
“The officer alerted the local residents, and when he learned that an elderly woman was probably staying in the apartment building, he broke a window in one of the rooms, woke up the 69-year-old woman, who left the building without any injuries. Then, junior sergeant Tomasz Orzeł turned off the gas cylinder and took her outside,” the Limanowa police said in a statement.
– The attitude is worth praising – commented senior captain Wojciech Bogacz.
No one was hurt in the fire, but the material losses were enormous. The farm building burned down completely, and the residential building – according to firefighters – is unsuitable for use. A car – a Fiat 125p – which was located in a farm building was also destroyed.
