A squall wave hung over Oleśnica (Lower Silesia) on Thursday. – It usually heralds gusty winds and intense rainfall, and in summer strong storms – said tvnmeteo.pl forecaster Damian Zdonek.
A squall wave is commonly called a shelf cloud.
– It is an exceptionally spectacular meteorological phenomenon, resembling a dense, horizontal cloud bank in the shape of an arc. Its characteristic features are sometimes ragged edges in the lower, frontal part of the cumulonimbus cloud – said tvnmeteo.pl forecaster Damian Zdonek.
Squall embankment
The forecaster added that the embankment that formed on Thursday morning over Oleśnicaprobably formed during the passage of a cold front. This proves the great dynamics taking place in the atmosphere.
– The embankment usually heralds gusty winds and intense rainfall, and heavy rainfall in summer storms – noted the tvnmeteo.pl forecaster.
