Mexico's National Guard has detained a man who attacked a flight attendant to gain entry to the cockpit and divert a domestic flight to the neighboring United States. The incident occurred on Sunday. The 31-year-old was overpowered by crew members. The Mexican talked about the kidnapping of a relative and the death threats he received.

The services detained a man who tried to redirect a Volaris flight from Guanajuato to Tijuana to the United States. The 31-year-old attacked a stewardess and then tried to enter the pilot's cabin. He was overpowered by members of the cabin crew, NBC News reports.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning. In response to the events on board, the captain decided to make an emergency landing in Guadalajara. There, the dangerous passenger was handed over to Mexican National Guard officers – adds the American portal.

The Mexican talked about kidnapping a relative and threats

According to the statement quoted by NBC News, the actions of both the captain and the rest of the crew were “in accordance with previously established procedures and safety protocols.” No passengers were injured and the flight continued and reached its destination. “Volaris Airlines regrets the inconvenience this situation has caused,” the statement added.

The exact reasons for the 31-year-old's behavior are unknown. However, according to ABC News, the man allegedly told the cabin crew that his relative had recently been kidnapped, and he himself had received death threats shortly before take-off. The Mexican was traveling with his wife and two children.
