– Everyone defends themselves as they believe. Let us remember that everyone has the right to defend themselves. MP Romanowski chose this formula – Przemysław Rosati, president of the Supreme Bar Council, said on TVN24 after Romanowski's defense attorney informed about the granting of international protection to the PiS MP by the Hungarian government. The information was confirmed by the head of Viktor Orban's office.
The Hungarian government accepted the request of MP Marcin Romanowski and granted him international protection under the Asylum Act – said attorney Bartosz Lewandowski, defense attorney PiS MP and former deputy minister of justice. On Thursday, the District Court in Warsaw agreed to issue a European Arrest Warrant for the deputy minister.
Since last Thursday, Romanowski has been wanted on an arrest warrant in connection with the earlier consideration of the prosecutor's request for the temporary arrest of a PiS MP. The prosecutor's office brought 11 charges against the former deputy minister of justice in the Justice Fund case.

On TVN24, in the “Tak Jest” program, Przemysław Rosati, president of the Supreme Bar Council, commented on Romanowski's defense lawyer's entry. – Perhaps this is a form that to some extent causes either consternation or concern among part of the public opinion, but Mr. Romanowski chose this form of defense and he cannot be accused of it – he said.
Rosati, asked about speculations about his whereabouts and possible movement within the EU, to Hungarianthe president of the NRA replied that the Hungarian government's decision “opens the mechanism of international protection.” – This is an autonomous decision of the Hungarian government, or perhaps the decision of Prime Minister Orban himself – And what is probably important in this matter: everyone defends themselves as they believe – he added.
Rosati about further proceedings against Romanowski
Rosati noted that international protection would not necessarily exempt Romanowski from liability in a Polish court. – It is not always the case that the participation of a suspect is necessary in the course of proceedings. Such proceedings are still ongoing unless it is necessary to perform procedural activities with the participation of the suspect and without these activities the proceedings cannot continue, he argued.
The president of the NRA suggested that the Hungarian government can only act on a strictly diplomatic basis regarding the possible extradition of Romanowski by the Hungarian government. – From the procedural point of view of Mr. Romanowski, a safe-conduct may come into play, i.e. an application submitted by either Mr. Romanowski or his defense attorney to the court for the issuance of a safe-conduct – he added.
A safe conduct is a procedural institution that allows the accused to participate in procedural activities on a so-called “free foot” while in Poland. At the same time, it is intended to be a guarantee that he will remain free until the final conclusion of the trial.
