We all go through some form of suffering at some point in our lives, said Charles III in his Christmas message. In his speech, the King of Great Britain thanked the doctors and nurses who treated him and the royal family this year, giving his speech a personal touch. The monarch and his daughter-in-law, Duchess Kate, were undergoing anti-cancer treatment.
– I would like to express my special, heartfelt thanks to the selfless doctors and nurses who supported me and other members of my family this year in the face of anxiety related to the disease. They brought us the strength, care and comfort we needed, said the king.
“I am also deeply grateful to all those who have given us their own kind words of sympathy and encouragement,” he added.
The personal tone of the message
As Reuters notes, Charles III set an extremely personal tone for the royal Christmas message, the delivery of which has been a tradition dating back to George V's radio address in 1932.
“We all go through some form of suffering at some point in our lives, whether mental or physical,” the king said. His words were accompanied by recordings of a visit to a cancer treatment center he made after returning to public duties in April. In the background of his words, there were also video fragments showing one of Kate's first public engagements after treatment.
The recording of the Christmas message was published several hours after the ruler greeted his supporters during the traditional walk from the royal residence in Sandringham to St. Mary Magdalene. Here royal family she attended the Christmas service, the AP reported.
In the celebrations, the king was accompanied by his eldest son, Prince William, his wife and three children, as well as Charles III's siblings – Princess Anne and Prince Edward. His second brother, Prince Andrew, was absent because of the numerous controversies surrounding his person.
As noted by Reuters, Charles III is slowly returning to public life after suffering from cancer. Palace sources said last week that the monarch's treatment was progressing well and would continue next year. In spring this year, Duchess Kate also admitted that she had been diagnosed with cancer and underwent treatment.
It was the king's third Christmas speech after taking the throne after her death in September 2022 Queen Elizabeth II.
