Marcin Romanowski is not hiding, he is fighting to restore basic legal order and I see no reason for him to resign from his mandate, which he will perform abroad, said former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro. The politician commented on the case of a PiS MP who received asylum in Hungary.

Former Deputy Minister of Justice, PiS MP Marcin Romanowski, who is a suspect in the investigation regarding the Justice Fund, received political asylum in Hungary. Earlier that day, on December 19, the District Court in Warsaw announced the issuance of a European arrest warrant for this politician. The prosecutor's office is planning new charges brought against him.

On Saturday, journalists asked about Romanowski's case at a press conference Zbigniew Ziobro.

The former Minister of Justice was asked whether he had contact with Romanowski and whether they consulted his activities Hungary.

– I was surprised by Minister Romanowski's decision, but Minister Romanowski contacts you, he is present on social media, he gives interviews, in this sense I am also in contact with him, I also write back. As for my presence on social media, you know it, so I have no secret here, he said.

Ziobro was also asked whether he would appeal to Romanowski to resign from his mandate and refrain from collecting money from the Sejm due to the fact that he would probably not be able to perform his parliamentary duties in the coming months.

The politician replied that Romanowski “has the right to fight for the Polish rule of law, he also has the right to fight for his own right to defense, which is guaranteed to him by the constitution.” He added that the PiS MP “gave conditions in which he indicated that he would be in Warsaw within six hours.”

– Minister Romanowski does not demand a safe-conduct. He does not want any guarantees that people who are hiding from the justice system usually expect in such situations, Ziobro argued. – He is not hiding, he is fighting for the restoration of basic legal order and I see no reason for him to resign from his mandate, which he will perform on behalf of the Republic of Poland abroad, because he is in a situation of certain duress, he is in a situation of lawlessness, in a clash with a criminal group. that rules Poland today – he added.

The Marshal of the Sejm commented on Romanowski's case on December 23 Szymon Hołownia. In his opinion, the politician who received political asylum in Hungary is not in a position today where he could impose any conditions on the Polish state. – Romanowski is obliged to return to Poland from which he escaped as soon as possible and turn himself in to justice – he emphasized.

According to Hołownia, “it is inconceivable that a man facing such serious charges has the nerve to impose any further conditions.” He also stated that Romanowski “is not doing the Republic of Poland any favors.” – The justice system is exactly the same for everyone – he reminded.
