The huge ice block fell on the roof of one of the houses in the north-eastern Florida. As a result of a collision in a metal structure, a large hole was created, fortunately no one was injured. The services suspect that ice could break away from the flying plane. The case is investigated by the American Federal Aviation Agency.
Last Monday, sunny weather dominated in the north-eastern Florida, and thermometers showed over 20 degrees Celsius. The idyllic mood was interrupted by a huge bang. As it turned out, it was the sound of the ice block that fell from heaven to the roof of one of the houses in Palm Coast in Flagler.
“I couldn't believe it, I heard something like that for the first time,” said one of the witnesses.
Firefighters called to the place saw a huge hole in a metal roof sheathing. Fortunately, no one was injured.
– This is not something we see every day […] Definitely the speed of what fell from the sky was significant – described Kyle Berryhill from Palm Coast Fire Department.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Agency
According to firefighters, the ice block could break away from one of the flying aircraft. Experts cited by American media indicate that such a scenario is very likely.
– There are places on aircraft where ice lumps can form, which in some circumstances can break away from it – explained Fox35 Shem Malmquist. A aviation specialist added that such cases occur several times a year.
The Flagler Sheriff Office announced that he was investigating the origin of ice and asked the Federal Aviation Administration for help in determining its source.
“When FAA receives reports about such incidents, the agency tries to determine whether the ice could come from the plane and then identify planes potentially involved in the event,” FAA said quoted by Fox35.
