As part of the annual mission, France distributes its fighters over Sweden, Poland and Croatia. This is intended, among others, to demonstrate NATO's abilities to react quickly.
Key facts:
- Pegase Grand Nord is an annual mission in which France sends its machines to heaven over other NATO countries.
- The army said when French aircraft will be present in Poland.
- This mission is special for two reasons.
France sent military aircraft to Sweden, including Rafale fighters, as part of the Pegase Grand Nord 25 mission, French Air Force informed on Wednesday. As part of this mission, aircraft will be sent to Poland later, and then to Croatia.
The goal is to demonstrate the possibility of placing the air forces “quickly, far and autonomous,” said the French army.
They will be, among others, in Poland
As conveying in the communiqué, “the Pegase Grand Nord mission contributes to showing the ability of NATO forces to immediately respond to all aggression in Europe.”
Six Rafale fighters, two A400M transport aircraft and A330 MRTT air refueling aircraft take part in the mission. On Tuesday, they started towards the city of Lulea in the north of Sweden. They will stay there until Friday and then they will be directed to Poland. On April 29, they will fly away from Poland to Croatia.
This is the first case when the annual mission of Pegase, initiated in 2018, is not headed to the Asia and Pacific region, a priority for France because of its overseas territories.
At the same time, the number of planes participating in this year's mission is smaller, and its time – shorter. In 2024, the mission covered 13 countries and lasted eight weeks.
