“Grandpa, thank you for everything. It was a great honor. I love you,” said Lucjan Brychczy's grandson, Michał, on Monday. Shortly afterwards, TVP Sport determined that he died at 3:20. – Unfortunately, dad contracted pneumonia. He couldn't get out of it, his son Ryszard explained to “Przegląd Sportowy Onet“. To honor the memory of a former football player, PZPN has made an important decision regarding the first league and Polish Cup matches.
Vuković wants the Legia stadium to be named after him. Lucjan Brychczy. “He deserved it”
“Lucjan Brychczy was a true legend of Legia Warszawa. He played for them in the years 1954-1972. During this time, he played in 452 matches and scored 226 goals. He is the club's record holder in terms of the number of matches” – wrote Marcin Jaz from Sport.pl. How he was perceived This can be said, for example, by the words that President Andrzej Duda said about him.
Former Legia coach Aleksandar Vuković believes that the club should do much more to honor the memory of the deceased. – He was definitely a special man. I had the honor of meeting him along the way. Sometimes we overuse the term 'club legend', but in the case of Mr. Lucjan, this term is not an exaggeration at all. He was and will forever remain a legend of Legia. I hope that soon we will visit the stadium at 3 Łazienkowska Street. Lucjan Brychczy. He deserved it like no one else – he said in an interview with TVP Sport.
Vuković remembers Lucjan Brychczy. “It was easy to feel embarrassed around him”
If this happened, another stadium in Poland would gain a patron. We already have such facilities in Mielec (Grzegorz Lata), Zabrze (Ernest Pohl) or even the National Stadium in Warsaw. Kazimierz Górski. Vuković claims that apart from the name of the facility, Lucjan Brychczy also deserves a monument.
– If anyone deserves to be commemorated in this way, it is Mr. Lucjan. And I didn't mention his monument next to Kazimierz Deyna's pedestal, because it's obvious to me. He was the embodiment of the values that Legia strives for, not always with good results. Sports skills and class combined with humility and modesty. His numbers and the 70 years spent at Łazienkowska speak for themselves. A monument is the least that can be done to honor his memory. He was an outstanding man, he admitted.
The 45-year-old recalls that the deceased had incredible football skills. – There are legends about his ability to beat goalkeepers with shots from about 20 meters. I can only testify that it's all true because I saw him score goals with my own eyes. In those moments I was glad I wasn't a goalkeeper. (…) It was really easy to feel embarrassed around him. In terms of technical training, the 70-year-old was better than the guys over 40 years younger – he was surprised.
Vuković revealed that, even when he joined Legia in 2001, Mr. Lucjan was still an active coach. What's more, until he was almost 70 years old, he handled the ball brilliantly. – He aroused our admiration. (…) When I was running Legia on my own and we won the national championship, Mr. Lucjan was a regular guest at our training sessions and home matches. (…) I always called him Mr. Coach, Mr. Lucjan. The loosest word I used for him was, “Master.” Because he was such a person, a model of club affiliation and loyalty to one color – he summed up.
