Rescuers of the Tatra Volunteer Ambulance Service (TOPR) warn against difficult conditions in the mountains. Sunny weather can be deceptive for many tourists. Only on Saturday there were nine interventions. One person was killed.
The first application reached the TOPR headquarters before noon from the Rysy region. According to TOPR, a tourist who got stuck below the outlet of the gully Rysa was safely brought to the shelter by a rescuer from a duty officer from Morskie Oko. The action lasted six hours.
Half an hour later a serious accident was reported on the trail between Zawrat and Świnica. The tourist fell several hundred meters into the valley under the wheel, his injuries turned out to be fatal. The man's body was transported by helicopter to Zakopane, and his partner was safely evacuated from the region of the ridge.
See: 100 meters from the top they found an unconscious tourist. He could not be saved.
Difficult conditions on the trails
The next intervention took place on the black trail leading to the shelter in the Five Polish Ponds valley. The tourist suffered an epilepsy attack there and required immediate help. The rescuer on duty and the helicopter crew gave the woman first aid, and then transported her aboard the machine to the hospital in Zakopane.
In the late afternoon, TOPR was asked to support Slovak Horska Záchranna Služba. In a great miller, the mountaineer broke his hand as a result of a stroke with a fragment of ice. The wounded climber and his partner were evacuated by helicopter and taken to the hospital.
In addition to larger actions, rescuers gave tourists several times in the lower parts of the Tatra Mountains. The most common cause of intervention were limb injuries caused by slipping and falls.
Currently, there are difficult tourist conditions in the Tatras. The trails are icy and covered with hard snow. The first, low level of avalanche threat applies. When choosing trails above the upper forest border, you need to be equipped with appropriate equipment for winter tourism, such as crayfish, ice ax, helmet and avalanche ABC. Raczki and poles can be useful in regulated parts.
TOPR once again appeals for caution and reason when planning mountain expeditions.
