There will be a thorough review and a return to investigations discontinued by the previous government – related to financial scandals, the Macierewicz subcommittee or the disregarded reports of the Supreme Audit Office to the prosecutor's office. The list of cases is long – it was shown by the Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar.
– Let no one count on a thick line or on the fact that the prosecutor's office will forget about these cases. On the contrary, these cases should be conducted and investigated reliably and thoroughly – announces the Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General from the Civic Coalition, Adam Bodnar.
The prosecutor's office is dealing with the Justice Fund, the scandal at the National Center for Research and Development, the villa plus and respirator scandals, the Macierewicz subcommittee, the Collegium Humanum case, and is also investigating abuses at Orlen. – There are a lot of these cases that we are analyzing – says Piotr Skiba from the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw.
There are dozens of such cases. Up until now, they were swept under the carpet by the prosecutor's office under Zbigniew Ziobro's rule, now – as the spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw explains – they are being brought to light. – There will be a few more interesting discoveries, there will be a few more interesting cases that we will have to pursue further. I am not saying that we will have to start over – announces Piotr Skiba.
– Mr. Bodnar, who plans to organize the games and is a master at doing somersaults, was late for the Olympics because the Olympic qualifications are behind us – comments Andrzej Åšliwka, MP of Law and Justice.
What will the prosecutor’s office do?
The pressure on the Prosecutor General – especially now, after the case of Marcin Romanowski's immunity – is enormous. Also, and perhaps above all, from the coalition partners. – Everything that is being done is being done too slowly, too late and too little – assesses Marek Sawicki, MP of the Polish People's Party.
The prosecutor's office also decided to look into allegations of defrauding 40 thousand euros for the organization of the Solidarna Polska party convention. This is a case that is also being investigated by the European Anti-Fraud Office.
– We know that Ziobro acted on the political orders of JarosÅ‚aw KaczyÅ„ski and hid what was inconvenient in the bottom drawer and later dismissed it – comments the Left MP Tomasz Trela. – I am not afraid at all, you cannot be afraid of this prosecutor's office, it is grotesque. It is illegal, as far as who is in charge of it is concerned. And it is very strongly, politically directed to oppress the opposition in Poland – says Jan Kanthak, MP of Sovereign Poland.
The prosecutor's office also decided to dust off the case of an Internal Security Agency officer who drove his car into a crowd of demonstrators and a police officer who broke the arm of a protesting woman. – We are doing something that should have been very thoroughly verified, checked some time ago – says Piotr Skiba.
– If we were not legalists, if we acted on the so-called rympaÅ‚, we could speed up certain things, but this is not what a democratic state of law is about – points out Mariusz Witczak, MP of the Civic Coalition.
Hence – in the context of the prosecutor's office's actions – one word keeps appearing: patience.
