After colliding with another car, the courier's electric Mercedes skidded and drove onto the pavement at high speed, hitting a lamppost and fence. The driver fled the scene. A search is underway. It is known that he does not have a driver's license.
We reported on Thursday about a dangerous collision between two cars. At the intersection of Zagórzańska and Złota Jesieni in Wawer, a Mercedes delivery driver forced the right of way and collided with a Nissan carrying a woman and two children. Although the incident looked dramatic, no one was injured.
A woman with a child in a stroller was leaving a store
We have obtained a recording from a surveillance camera located near the intersection. The video does not show the moment of collision between the vehicles. However, it precisely records what happens next to the electric courier car. It slides sideways, and you can hear the screech of tires. First, it drives onto the sidewalk, hits a concrete post with its front, breaking it. The car continues to spin, its rear hits a steel fence span, knocking it over, also destroying the brick structure.
The full footage shows that moments earlier, a woman with a small child in a stroller emerges from a store on the other side of the narrow road. A speeding Mercedes skids past them a short distance away. Another vehicle approaches from the opposite direction, its driver brakes and swerves to the right. This is the only reason a head-on collision does not occur.
Driver with suspended driving license
According to our findings, there were two people in the courier company car. After the collision, the driver was on the scene for a moment, then fled. The passenger stayed. The owner of the company that owns the wrecked Mercedes appeared on the scene. The police easily managed to establish the driver's details. After checking the police database, it turned out that he had lost his driving license, although when he was hired, he was supposed to present his employer with valid documents authorizing him to drive a car.
– Actions in this case are ongoing, including the search for the driver – informs Deputy Commissioner Jacek WiÅ›niewski from the Warsaw Police Headquarters.
Driving without a driving license is punishable by a fine of up to PLN 30,000. And if the document is seized by a court judgment, up to five years in prison. Fleeing the scene of a collision is treated as a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the circumstances. According to the Penal Code, if the perpetrator flees the scene of the accident, he may face arrest, restriction of freedom or a fine.
