President Andrzej Duda officially declared support for Karol Nawrocki. – However, he did it when Nawrocki already became an indisputable favorite to the second round – noted the political scientist Professor Rafał Chwedoruk. He emphasized that although Duda's support strengthens the recognition of the PiS candidate, his role should not be overestimated.
Just a few months ago he argued that the head of state should not give official support to any of the candidates. However, President Andrzej Duda changed his mind and during the Sunday election convention PIS In Łódź, he officially declared support for Karol Nawrocki.
“The form was extremely spectacular and rare”
– If we look in such a longer horizon of Polish politics, this is not a precedent, although the form was extremely spectacular and rare – commented on TVN24 political scientist Professor Rafał Chwedoruk. He added that “absolutely the most interesting is done if we look at this event from a short -term perspective covering only the current campaign.”

– President Duda did not appear in this campaign all over when Karol Nawrocki experienced the most difficult moments when the distance between him and Sławomir Mentzen was minimal or at all disappeared in some polls. He appeared when Karol Nawrocki became an indisputable favorite to enter the second round, in which Sławomir Mentzen probably has no real chance to change the current circulation of things – said Chwedoruk.
According to him, “the strategy of the presidential center was slightly different.” – She was calculated for something that was once called a coalition of Polish matters, that is, balancing between Law and Justice, the Polish People's Party and the Confederation. And the poor result of Karol Nawrocki strengthened such a balance perfectly – he noted.
“Do not overestimate the role of Andrzej Duda in Polish politics”
– In politics we are dealing with either candidates who are ahead of their own parties, are Plus candidates, or with those who have to count on the power of the party apparatus, and their quotations are much lower at the start than the party's ratings – said the political scientist. He added that “this is exactly the case of Karol Nawrocki, so every support is quite important for this candidate.”
He noted, however, that “the role of Andrzej Duda should not be overestimated in Polish politics at the moment.” – This is the head of the state ending his mission. He is also a politician who has never fully defined his relations with Law and Justice. Neither it was a permanent conflict, nor was it a constant consent in everything – he noted.
According to Chwedoruk, support from Andrzej Duda is “a” factor that will strengthen Karol Nawrocki's recognition among the edges of the Law and Justice electorate. ” – However, Andrzej Duda is no longer a politician whose word would go beyond the circle of faithful voters of the right – he added.
Presidential debate – what candidates are fighting for the last simple campaign
At 18 o'clock on Monday, the election debate of presidential candidates is planned. The organizer – the “Super Express” daily – declared that the participation was confirmed by “almost all candidates”, and the formula of the debate would consist of questioning the participants by each other.
– If we look at the two main candidates, they will fight in the next debates to lose as little as possible in favor of those with whom they compete directly for voters – said prof. Chwedoruk. As he specified, in the case of Rafał Trzaskowski it is a competition with the left candidate Magdalena Biejat and the Polish leader 2050 Szymon Hołowniaand in the case of Karol Nawrocki – with Sławomir Mentzen and “less known right -wing candidates”.
He added that “the most for the Polish policy of debate can bring when it comes to what is happening from third place.”
