There can be many more victims
Foreign organizations are afraid that the actual number of victims can be much higher. The American Geological Society estimated that 10 to even 100,000 people could die. Rescue teams conduct a search campaign, but they are often unable to reach the lower floors of collapsed buildings. There is a lack of heavy equipment and workforce in the country.
– Extracting one body requires many hours of hard work – an employee of local rescue services told journalists.
Foreign teams also participate in the rescue and humanitarian action. Help is provided, among others, by: China, India, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and Türkiye – DVB said.

Collective graves
The bodies of victims are still mined under the rubble of collapsed buildings. Over the past two days, a corpse of nearly 50 Buddhist monks has been excavated from the collapsed monastery. In the monastery in Maha Aungmyay from the ruins, only 70 out of 200 monks managed to get out. Rescuers in an interview with foreign media describe that the victims are buried in collective graves after notifying family members.
– If families agree, we comb or cream together from five to ten bodies – described the local official.
The earthquake that occurred during the civil war in Burma was even more deteriorated by the humanitarian crisis. According to the United Nations, over 3 million people had to leave the houses due to the conflict, and as much as 20 percent. He needed humanitarian help.
