The Slovak Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) reported the death of a Polish climber who died in a fall from Czarny Szczyt on Friday. Another tourist from Poland also died in the High Tatras that day.
A 66-year-old mountaineer fell from Czarny Szczyt towards the Jastrzębia Valley. HZS received a report of the Pole's accident in the afternoon. The crew of the Air Ambulance Service (VZZS) from Poprad was asked for help, and they took rescuers from the fire department and HZS on board the helicopter.
The Slovak Mountain Rescue Service reported on Saturday afternoon that the man had suffered fatal injuries in the fall. That day, the body of the deceased was transported to lower Tatra mountains and handed over to the Slovak police.
Czarny Szczyt, 2,429 meters above sea level, is located in the main ridge of the Tatras. There are no hiking trails leading to it.
Two fatal accidents in one day
On Friday, there was another fatal accident involving a Polish tourist. Rescuers in the area of ​​the Huncovská Valley found the body of a 61-year-old man who, walking in the fog in the morning, lost his orientation and fell off the ridge while descending from the Mały Kežmarski Peak towards Rakuska Czuba.
