There are difficult conditions for tourism in the Tatra Mountains. The avalanche “number one” applies there. The authorities of the Tatra National Park ask people not to enter the ponds because the ice on them may crack.

The first level of avalanche danger applies in the Tatra Mountains. Conditions for tourism are demanding. Above the upper forest line, a thin layer of snow covered older, frozen snow and ice.

“The trails are very slippery in places, where the wind has blown larger amounts of snow, you should be especially careful, not forgetting that there is still an avalanche risk. When going higher, you should have appropriate knowledge, experience and winter equipment (crampons, ice ax, helmet, avalanche ABC ) along with the ability to operate,” we read in the announcement of the Tatra National Park.

The park authorities ask people not to enter the ponds because they are just freezing. “The ice in many places is very thin and can easily break,” emphasizes TPN.

There is over 30 centimeters of snow on Śnieżka

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management announced on social media that on Sunday at 7 a.m. the greatest snow cover thickness was recorded on Śnieżka – 32 centimeters. There is 21 cm of snow on Kasprowy Wierch.

In the Karkonosze Mountains, the avalanche rule number 1 applies. According to GORP, the snow cover is generally well bonded and stable. Triggering an avalanche is generally only possible with a large additional load in a few places on very steep or extreme slopes. Small and medium-sized avalanches can occur spontaneously.
