Polish electricity networks monitor their infrastructure using drones and helicopters. The Baltic States are in the process of disconnecting from the power network shared with Russia and joining the European one. On Saturday morning there was a disconnection, and full integration with the European network will take place on Sunday. In the meantime, the Network of Baltic States operates in the “lonely islands” mode. This is a historic change. The role of Poland is important in this.
Recognition drones and observation helicopters near the high voltage line. Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne conducts increased monitoring of its infrastructure. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are disconnected from the post -Soviet energy system.
– We want to be fully aware of what is happening to our substations and transmission lines against synchronization to avoid sabotage attempts – says Maciej WapiÅ„ski from the Polish energy network.
Services put in a state of readiness
Energy transmission between the Baltic States and Russia and Belarus were suspended between seven and eighth in the morning. The energy of these countries will operate in the so -called lonely island mode for the next several hours. Connected to the western system, but not fully integrated with it.
– We have reserves in the eastern part of Estonia. We also have a spare plan. We are ready. Even if there is attempts to disturb this process, nothing will change – assures Prime Minister Estonia Kristen Michal.
The historical operation will last until Sunday. Systems should also be synchronized so that current flows through the same frequency.
– We are aware of threats and prepared. On these days we received support from our special services and armed forces – informs Rolands Irklis, president of the board of the Latvian power network “AST”.
The Baltic States are now rely on three submarine cables connecting them with Finland and Sweden and one Litpol Link Linki Link Master running from Poland through the so -called Suwałki isthmus to Lithuania.
In December, the undersea connection between Estonia and Finland was damaged by an anchor of a ship belonging to the so -called Russian shadow fleet. The unit was later detained by Finnish commandos. A month earlier, after a similar incident, the cable between Lithuania and Sweden briefly stopped working.
– Underwater infrastructure is increasingly the target of attacks below the war threshold, which is why Litpol Link is so important, a cable that is run after land and which can be better protected, better monitored – indicates Jakub Wiech from Energetyka24.com.

By 2030 another energy connection will be created
Poland became independent of Russian transmission lines as early as in the 1990s in the Baltic countries this process was initiated 15 years ago. The European Union has invested over a billion euros in a new infrastructure.
– Now the system is fully under our control. A stable energy system is of great importance in the current geopolitical situation – says Kaspars Melnis, Minister of Climate and Energy of Latvia.
In the past, Russia has used energy to achieve its political goals.
– Even before tanks entered Ukraine, we had an energy war that caused an energy crisis in Europe. Any reduction of Putin's influence in Europe in the energy area is extremely important – emphasizes Paulina Hennig -Kloska, the minister of climate and the environment from Poland 2050.
Until 2030, another – the second – the second – landing energy connection between Poland and the Baltic States is to be created.
