Bayern Munich is doing a lot to return to the Bundesliga championship after a season break. Vincent Kompany's team did not lose a single match in the first thirteen rounds of the German league, and ten wins and three draws gave them a very confident lead in the table. On Saturday, the Bavarians went to an away match against FSV Mainz, who has been solid this season, but they were still the clear favorites.

A sensation in the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich's disastrous match and defeat against FSV Mainz

However, this match did not go well for Bayern at all. From the beginning to the very end. And this despite the fact that after just a quarter of an hour the hosts lost their biggest star – striker Jonathan Burkardt – due to injury. Therefore, the hero of the match was 32-year-old Korean Lee Jae-Sung.

In the 41st minute, the Mainz midfielder caught Armando Sieb's blocked shot and surprised Daniel Peretz, who was leaving the goal, from five meters away.

The same player also scored for the second time in the 60th minute, when he used Sieb's move again. This time, after his good flat cross from the right side of the pitch, Lee controlled the ball with his back to the goal, about seven meters from it, and surprised Peretz with a half-turn shot.

Bayern was very weak that day. Let it be confirmed by the fact that Kompany's team had only one shot on target in the entire match. It also resulted in a contact goal by Leroy Sane, who in the 87th minute, after a good move by Bayern, caught the deflected ball in the opponent's penalty area and directed it into the empty goal of the surprised goalkeeper, Robin Zentner. The German runners-up could no longer afford any more and, losing 1-2 in Mainz, they suffered their first defeat in the league season.

Despite Saturday's defeat, Bayern Munich is still the leader of the Bundesliga with 33 points in 14 games, but its advantage over second-place Bayer Leverkusen has shrunk to four points. Moreover, third place Eintracht Frankfurt has 27 points and one game less. FSV Mainz moved to sixth place with 22 points.
