A plane with ten people on board crashed and hit a store in the center of the tourist town of Gramado in southern Brazil. According to authorities, none of the passengers survived.

“Unfortunately, initial reports indicate that none of the plane's passengers survived,” Eduardo Leite, the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, wrote on the X website.

The state said at least 15 people were taken to a city hospital. Most of them suffered from inhalation of smoke after the disaster fire.

The plane first hit the chimney of the building, then hit the second floor of the residential building, and finally hit the furniture store, the authorities said.

Located in the mountainous region, Gramado is the most popular tourist destination in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The area was flooded earlier this year by heavy rains that took the lives of over a hundred people, destroyed infrastructure and devastated the local economy.

The tragedy occurred a few days before Christmas, during which Christmas festivals are traditionally held in the town.
