Negotiations are underway with the Chinese side about the possibility of boarding the Yi Peng 3 ship, which is moored in the Kattegat Strait, Danish and Swedish media reported. The ship's crew is suspected of interrupting telecommunications cables in the Baltic Sea.
According to the Danish public broadcaster DR and Sweden's SVT, Denmark and several other countries are conducting “intense talks” on inspecting the vessel, which has been moored in the Kattegat Strait for a week. Diplomatic negotiations were confirmed, among others, by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Since last Tuesday, the Chinese bulk carrier has remained anchored in international waters, making boarding and questioning of the crew difficult. Over the weekend, the Posejdon unit of the Swedish Coast Guard joined the Danish Navy guarding the ship. There is also a German ship on site.
Investigation by the Swedish prosecutor's office
Also over the weekend, the Swedish Navy, acting on behalf of the Stockholm prosecutor's office and the police, completed documentation of the places on the seabed where undersea cables were cut on November 17 and 18. The connecting telecommunications connections were damaged Lithuania That Sweden and Finland With Germany. Both places are located in the Swedish economic zone.
The Swedish army did not make the results of the study public, citing the secrecy of the investigation. Navy spokesman Jimmie Adamsson said only that seabed analysis could continue if necessary. The Stockholm prosecutor's office has been investigating possible sabotage since Wednesday.
Last week, DR published photos of the Yi Peng ship, showing the crooked arms of one of the anchors, which may suggest contact with cables.
