Twelve military paratroopers were supposed to land in the Błędów Desert. However, the wind carried them to the nearby town of Chechło (Lesser Poland Province). As can be seen in a video posted on social media, the parachute of one of the soldiers got stuck on a power line. “As a result of the unintended landing, the roof of the building was damaged and the jumper suffered a knee injury. The soldier was taken to a medical facility, and the officer on duty at the drop zone prepared photographic documentation and wrote a note with the owner of the building,” writes Major Agnieszka Gdula from the 2nd Hrubieszów Reconnaissance Regiment in a statement.

Military: Sudden increase in wind speed
It also reports that the incident took place today (September 9) at approximately 12:50 p.m. during parachute-landing training.
“(…) as a result of a sudden increase in wind speed and a change in its direction by approximately 65 degrees, which occurred after the jumpers left the aircraft, 12 jumpers landed outside the Pustynia Błędowska drop zone,” the release reads.
Expert: such situations happen
Reserve Lieutenant Commander Maksymilian Dura, an expert from the defence24.pl portal, comments in an interview with tvn24.pl that in the case of landing parachutes there is not much room for maneuver, and the town of Chechło is located near the Błędowska Desert.
– In strong winds, such an event can occur. Especially when jumping from a great height. Such situations happen – he emphasizes.
