In the evenings this week we can observe comet C/2023 A3 orbiting the sky. At Kontakt24 we received photos showing the object's flight on Tuesday after sunset over the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) was discovered in early 2023 by scientists from the ATLAS project in Hawaii and China's Zijinshan Astronomical Observatory. Examination of its trajectory showed that it most likely came from the very gravitational fringes of the solar system. Since Friday, it can be seen in the sky over Poland, and this week the weather is particularly favorable for observations. The next nights will be almost cloudless.
It is worth starting to look for the object an hour after sunset. Then the sky is dark enough to easily locate the comet.
Where to look for C/2023 A3
The object can be seen above the western horizon. “The West is where the sun was setting and where you will still see its glow. Look for the comet in this direction,” explains Karol Wójcicki, the author of the blog “With your head in the stars”. He adds that “every next day at the same time, the comet will be about 2 degrees higher, which will directly translate into its better visibility.”
You don't need a telescope or binoculars to observe a comet, but using them will certainly help you locate the object faster and see more details.
Comet in your photos
At Kontakt 24 we received photos of the comet taken on Tuesday after dark near the town of Lubraniec and Ślesin in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. They show a bright object flying in the sky.
Reporters24 also managed to capture the comet's passage over Poland in other places in the country in previous days. We received photos from, among others, the surrounding area Tarnów and Beskidy Mountains.
