On Tuesday, President Andrzej Duda took part in the official welcome to the COP29 climate summit in Baku. However, I will not appear in a group photo with other leaders present at the event. As PAP found out, he did not want to pose with the leader of the Belarusian regime, Alexander Lukashenko.
In Baku, the capital Azerbaijanthe United Nations COP29 climate summit takes place. Poland is represented there by the president Andrzej Duda.
Duda took part in the official welcome, but did not appear in a group photo with other leaders. The president, as PAP unofficially learned, did not want to be in a joint photo with the Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenko.
For the same reason, last year the Polish president did not pose for a group photo with the participants of the COP28 climate summit in Dubai.
Climate summit UN is a cyclical event that takes place every year. This year's COP29, under the slogan “In solidarity for a green world”, is taking place in the capital of Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22. President Andrzej Duda, who represents our country there, will stay in Baku until Wednesday.
The conference includes the most important body of the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC). The convention was created to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and stop the average global temperature from rising above 1.5 degrees Celsius. However, over time, new provisions have been added and now the conference also covers topics related to climate in general.
