Due to dense fog, flights to Krakow are redirected to other airports, including Warsaw, Rzeszów, Wrocław and Ostrava. There were also problems in Katowice in the morning, but the situation there normalized before noon.

According to Natalia Vince, spokeswoman for Kraków-Balice Airport, the weather prevents landings and scheduled flights are being redirected to Warsaw, Rzeszów, Wrocław and Ostrava. Departures are also significantly delayed, and flights from Krakow to Istanbul, Frankfurt and Amsterdam have been canceled.

– The situation is such that no plane is landing due to fog on the runway. We hope, at least that's what the forecasts say, that we will be able to at least take off in the near future. All flights are heavily delayed, and unfortunately 10 flights have been canceled, said Vince after 1:30 p.m.

The airport appealed on social media to follow the websites of carriers and the airport. “The situation related to flight redirection is dynamic and preliminary information may change,” the airport noted.

They have been waiting since three in the morning

– I'm mentally exhausted – one of the passengers at the airport in Krakow told a TVN24 reporter.

– How long have you been waiting? – the journalist asked.

“Since three in the morning,” the woman replied.

Another passenger said she was waiting for a plane to Malaga. She was supposed to fly to her daughter at 3:20 p.m. – There is no information whether it is delayed or something. We are waiting patiently, she said. According to the website krakowaiport.pl, the flight to Malaga should take place, but it will be delayed.

Flights resumed in Katowice

Fog also hampered the operation of the port in Katowice from the morning. Departures to London and Eindhoven were delayed. Flights to Katowice were redirected to Wrocław and Warsaw.

Airport spokesman Piotr Adamczyk told us that flights in Pyrzowice had been resumed at 11 a.m. – Now the situation is normal, and the airport also accepts flights from Krakow – he said.

Katowice has taken over some of the flights from Krakow, and between airports passengers use buses provided by carriers.

In Katowice, you can land with visibility of at least 300 meters. Takeoffs may take place with visibility of not less than 125 meters.
