Until the new leadership is elected, the acting director of MOCAK is Grzegorz Kuźma, the current deputy director of the institution. He took up the position after the dismissal of Maria Anna Potocka – also known as Masza Potocka – who had managed the museum since its opening in 2011.
The mayor of Krakow initiated the procedure for Potocka's dismissal at the beginning of Octoberciting “negligence for the reputation of the museum and the city” as the reason. The decision was related to, among others, with the court's ruling from July this year, which found mobbing in another institution previously headed by Potocka – Bunkier Sztuki. According to Miszalski, surveys conducted among MOCAK employees showed problems in relations between the director and employees.
In a statement issued after the appeal, Maria Anna Potocka stated:that the president's decision was inconsistent with the opinion of the trade union at MOCAK and the inspection carried out, which – as she assessed – did not show that her actions violated the good name of the museum or that mobbing occurred there. She also indicated that for procedural reasons she could not appeal against the court's judgment.
The municipal cultural institution – the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków – MOCAK – was established in 2010 and opened in 2011. From the very beginning, its director was Maria Anna Potocka.
In March this year the previous mayor of the city, Jacek Majchrowski, appointed Potocka for another seven-year term. From 2019 to March this year. she also managed the Bunkier Sztuki gallery.
