Cuban oppositionist, 30-year-old Manuel de Jesus Guillen Esplugas, was killed in Havana's Combinado del Este prison, the family of the deceased dissident and independent human rights organizations reported. They specified that a well-known activist of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (Unpac) died from blows inflicted on him in prison.
The human rights organization Justicia 11J noted that Guillen Esplugas was a participant in the mass demonstrations against the regime in Havana that spread throughout Cuba in July 2021.
She recalled that the activist was serving a 6-year prison sentence for filming anti-government demonstrations in Havana and publishing these recordings on the Internet.

Demonstrations in Cuba
Thousands of citizens took part in anti-government demonstrations in Cuba in July 2021, demanding the democratization of the state and the effective policy of the regime in Havana in the fight against food and medicine shortages.
According to the management of Justicia 11J, these largest protests since the end of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, which introduced a communist regime, led to the detention of 1,580 demonstrators, of whom 553 are still in prison.
