Near Kralovec, near the Czech-Polish border, construction of a section of the D11 motorway, which is to connect with the Polish S3, has started. The work is carried out by the Czech-Slovak-Hungarian consortium MI Roads. Budimex originally won the tender, but was later excluded from it.
The need to extend the D11 motorway to the Polish border has been discussed at virtually every level of Polish-Czech contacts for many years.
On Wednesday, the Prime Minister mentioned the announced start of work at a press conference after a joint meeting of the governments Czech Petr Fiala. He admitted that the delays related to the start of the investment were on the Czech side.
Construction of a section of the D11 motorway
– The construction of the D11 Trutnov motorway – border with Poland is the largest tender awarded in a public competition in the history of the Directorate for Roads and Motorways (RzSD) – said the Minister of Transport, Martin Kupka, on Friday.
– This is an extremely demanding project. Now it is important to make the most of the time remaining until winter, added Zdeník Ludvík, director of the MI Roads consortium.
Budimex excluded
Budimex won the tender in 2023 and was to start construction in December. However, the decision of RzSD, which was favorable to the Polish company, was invalidated by the Czech Antimonopoly Office after appeals from competitors.
Completion of works on the new section of D11 from Kralovec to Trutnov, the construction of which is expected to cost over 11 billion crowns (almost PLN 2 billion), is expected at the end of 2027.
In order to be able to reach Pomerania from Prague, the Czech RzSD must still complete the Trutnov-Jaromierz section, where the D11 motorway currently ends. It has a construction permit that is not yet final and is planned to start in 2025 and finish in 2028.
