Deportations in the USA. The mayor of Newark warns against returning “to dangerous times”

From the first days of the presidency, Donald Trump has been implemented by the greatest deportation action in the history of the United States. – President Trump sends a clear and strong signal to the whole world: if at least for a second you think about the illegal entrance to our country and breaking American law, you will bear the consequences for your actions – informs the spokeswoman of the White House Karoline Leavitt.

Only on Friday with three planes Americans deported about 260 people to Guatemala. In total, more than a thousand people have been deported since Donald Trump's swearing in.

– The deportation goes very well. Among these people are criminals, murderers, bad people. This is what we take them first – says President Donald Trump.

However, there are problems. Mexico authorities did not agree to landing in the country of an American aircraft with deported migrants.

– We want cooperation in prosecution of criminals, and unilateral decisions do not help. That is why we will analyze legal effects for legal organizations that may suffer from a decision on deportations. We intend to submit a cooperation offer to the United States – said Claudia Sheinbaum, the president of Mexico.

There was pale fear on migrants, because although criminals are the priority of the deportation action, those who do not have the right to stay in the United States may also be arrested.

– I am of Spanish origin. I know that there are many people in my environment who are afraid of what will happen to them – says one of the inhabitants of Boston. – I feel sorry for those who do not have documents. These are hard -working people, they do something for this country – comments another resident of Boston.

Agents of the immigration office enter not only homes, but also workplaces. The raid took place, among others, in Newark, New Jersey. – They entered here as if it was the earth they conquered, their empire. They were heavily armed, blocking entrances and exits. They climbed the delivery ramps, pounded on the door of the bathroom to make sure that no one was hiding inside – says Amy Torres from the Help Center for Immigrants in New Jersey.

According to local authorities, among the detainees were US citizens, including a veteran of the American army.

– We may not agree on political issues as to the role that migrants play in our economy or the scale of crimes among migrants. In fact, they are more often victims of crime. However, we must agree that what distinguishes this country from many others is our constitution. If we allow us to include us in the category of criminals based on how we look, we will return to dangerous times, especially for people who looked like me – notes Barak Ras, the mayor of Newark.

According to the new regulations, the raids can also be carried out in schools. – Students, regardless of whether they have appropriate documents or not, have the right to education and to ensure their safety – emphasizes Mineerva Perez from the Latin American lawyers Association.

The attempts of immigration agents are not hidden by representatives of the Methodist Church of St. Paweł and Andrzej in New York. They have been helping immigrants for years.

New York parishes declare support for immigrants. On the door of the churches there is information that immigration officials are forbidden to enter there.

– For decades, a policy has been in force according to which the federal government does not enforce immigration law in prayer homes. Trump's administration wants to change it. Basically, as such places are often in private areas, clergy can still ask them to leave them by law enforcement officers who do not have a court order – indicates Alina Dąs, a lawyer.

The sheriff of St. also wants to protect migrants Joseph, Indiana Bill Redmond. Instead, he got a lawsuit on the part of the Prosecutor General Indiana.

– The decision of the sheriff and the local police about the lack of cooperation with the federal immigration authorities gives a safe haven of illegal immigrants who must be expelled from the country. The unit will act like a magnet for people who committed crimes and are harmful to citizens' rights – tells Todd Rokita, the Indiana Prosecutor General.

The mayor of Chicago Brandon Johnson is also ready to face the Donald Trump administration. The city was banned from checking migration documents. The authorities are preparing to take legal steps in response to some of the decrees signed by the new American president.

– Our legal department is already working on it. I consider wicked raids on schools and churches. This is holy places. We will protect this family – says the mayor of Chicago.
