Doctors will be responsible for issuing false prescriptions to opioids

An indictment was sent to the court against seven people suspected of fraud to the detriment of the National Health Fund. Among the accused are two psychiatrists who were to issue false recipes for opioid drugs.

The indictment was forwarded by the prosecutor's office to the court in Tarnów on Wednesday.

According to the prosecutor's office, the accused in 2018-2023 extorted from NFZ A total of about 400,000 PLN – spokesman of the District Prosecutor's Office in Tarnów MieczysÅ‚aw Sienicki.

Indictment against two psychiatrists from the province. Podkarpackie accuses them that by testifying untruth in patients medical documentation, they issued several hundred prescriptions to nearly 1.4 thousand packages of opioid drugs containing about 77,000 tablets. Doctors got several hundred zlotys for it.

Another five accused – said a spokesman for the prosecutor's office – they are family -related people who implemented these prescriptions in pharmacies of the whole country, including in DÄ™bica, JasÅ‚o, Mielec, Tarnów, Krakow, Warsaw, Lublin, Gdynia and GdaÅ„sk.

Drug trafficking online

The criminal practice consisted in the fact that the payment at the pharmacy for prescriptions was determined by a flat -rate and amounted to PLN 15 for one pack, and in the reimbursement of the National Health Fund he paid about PLN 300 to each pack.

Then the perpetrators posted an advertisement on internet portals and sold opioid drugs to other people for 800 to 1200 PLN per pack. They sent them to recipients via Poczta Polska and courier companies. They received receivables in the form of cash and transfers to the account of minor Justin L., controlled by his father Klaudius L., who together with his wife Kinga P.-L. He played a key role in the procedure.

As investigators calculated, in this way the perpetrators extorted about 400,000 from the NFZ. zloty.

The accused will also be responsible for possession and participation in trade in significant amounts of intoxicants.

Prosecutor Sienicki announced that the materials about people who bought opioid drugs from the accused were transferred to the District Prosecutor's Office in Zielona Góra and Gniezno, which conduct separate proceedings in these matters.

The District Prosecutor in Tarnów also sent a letter to the Minister of Health signaling the need to increase the control activities of the Pharmaceutical Inspection.
