Intense rainfall from December 31 to January 1 in northern England led to numerous floods and flooding. Many streets were underwater, parking lots were flooded, and drivers abandoned their cars.

About 400 residents of Stockport, located in the Greater Manchester metropolitan county, were evacuated on Thursday, and 500 guests had to leave a nearby hotel, the BBC reported.
