The incumbent president Daniel Noboa won the second round of presidential elections in Ecuador – the National Electoral Commission said. Reuters comments that he easily defeated his left -wing competitor Luisa Gonzalez, who stated that she did not recognize the results and would call for the conversion of votes again.
After converting over 90 percent of the votes, Daniel Noboa has unexpectedly a great advantage and easily defeated Luisa Gonzalez – 56 to 44 percent and leads over a million votes, “Reuters said.
The agency adds that it was expected that the second round would be much more even, after the first ended with only a slight victory for the incumbent president. Noboa at that time had an advantage over Gonzalez only less than 17,000 votes.
The competitor does not recognize the results
The leftist opponent told the chanting supporters after the announcement of preliminary results that she did not recognize them and that she demanded a recalculation of votes.
“I don't believe that people prefer lies instead of truth, violence instead of peace and unity,” said Gonzalez. “We will demand that votes recalculate again and open the election urns,” she added.
