Emmanuel Macron in an interview with the French media announced that he would propose a dialogue on a nuclear umbrella for Poland. He added, however, that such guarantees are not for free. France has a much smaller nuclear arsenal than the United States or Russia, but it still has strategic significance.
Whether France It will cover Poland with a nuclear umbrella, it is the subject of discussion not only on the Vistula, but also in Paris. The President of France has recently talked about it on television.
– American heads are on planes in Belgium, Germany, Italy or in Turkey. We are ready to discuss. In the coming weeks or months I will officially present her frames – announced Emmanuel Macron.
The issue of embracing Poland with a French nuclear umbrella appeared just before signing by Donald Tusk and Emmanuel Macron Treaty of Nancy. It contains records about joint creation of atomic energy. Now the President of France in a three -hour interview not only did not rule out taking up other countries with a nuclear umbrella, but also revealed some details.
– France will not pay for other people's security. This may be a European contribution or specific countries. Secondly, France will not reduce the arsenal guaranteeing our safety. Thirdly, the final decision to use this weapon will always belong to the President of the Republic and the head of our armed forces – pointed out Emmanuel Macron.

The President of France did not like the Kremlin
France has a fourth nuclear arsenal, counting – according to international analysts – 280 heads. Although it is incomparably smaller than American or Russian, which have several thousand heads, it is fully independent. Macron's announcements did not like the Kremlin.
– The spread of nuclear weapons on the European continent will not contribute to increasing safety, predictability or stability on this continent – he said Dmitry PieskowKremlin spokesman.
The nuclear doctrine, which has been in force since President Charles de Gaulle, considers nuclear deterrence in the vital interests of France in European terms.
– We are talking about a historic event today. From today, France and Poland will be able to really count on themselves in these difficult times. In every situation – good and difficult. Both of our nations deserve this – yes on Friday Donald Tusk commented on the signing of the Nancy Treaty. Although it is not directly spent on taking Poland with a nuclear umbrella, it is a commitment to provide mutual assistance in the event of an assault, using military funds, including obligations NATO and the European Union.
Arguments for and against
DeiVidas Matulionis, president's advisor Lithuaniahowever, he claims that gaining guarantees outside those contained in alliances undermines NATO's credibility.
– We have no reason not to trust the policy of scapering and defense of NATO, which has recently been consolidated and is heading towards a much stronger defense dimension – indicates Deividas Matulionis, adviser to the President of Lithuania for security.
However, there is no shortage of voices that every additional security guarantee is valuable. The question is how much Poland will pay for it and what would include a possible contract.
– There are different ratings here. More or less, I think it would be at the level of about two to five billion dollars, so that such a number of heads can be stationed with planes and infrastructure. This is probably about five percent of Poland's arms expenses. This is potentially to be carried away – says Marcin Bużański, director of the Center for Diplomacy and Negotiations at the University of Civitas.
During the three -hour interview for French television, Emmanuel Macron summed up the issue of security, saying that Europe must arm, deter and maintain solidarity to keep freedom. If Poland would like to negotiate the embrace with a nuclear umbrella, it must hurry, because in two years Macron will move out of the Elysee Palace.
