The international reconnaissance competition under the code name “Admiral Pitka Recon Challenge” has been held in Estonia since 2013 and is always held in August. military teams from NATO member countries compete for the title of the best. 22 groups from nine countries came to Estonia.

The competition was held in an area near the highest peak in Estonia, Suur Munamägi, which is 318 meters above sea level, and the deepest lake in the country, Rouge Suurjärv, which is 38 meters deep. Over the course of four days, the soldiers had to cover about 120 kilometers on foot.

The teams consisted of four players and competed in several events such as: shooting or memorizing object arrangements under fatigue conditions. And it was in these competitions that the Podkarpacie territorials proved to be the best. Others included overcoming a water obstacle using an overhanging line, and orientation in the terrain.

– Three of us have already taken part in previous editions of the reconnaissance competition – summed up 2nd Lt. RafaÅ‚, a participant of the competition from the 3rd PBOT.

– That is why we have adjusted our preparations accordingly, in addition to general development training, also focus on the technical aspects of military craftsmanshipsuch as working with a map, principles of providing assistance in combat conditions and shooting, he added.

International competition in Estonia – Pitka Recon Challenge

Pitka Recon Challenge is a competition that combines different disciplines, combining military tactics, physical endurance and teamwork.

– The main goal of these competitions, apart from sports competition, is to develop leadership skills and prepare to act in changing situations – said 2nd Lt. Magdalena Mac, press officer of the 3rd PBOT and commander of the command and support platoon.

Admiral Johan Pitka is a national hero of Estonia who played a key role in organizing the Estonian Armed Forces. The competition is organized by Defense League (Estonian Defense League) the Estonian equivalent of the Territorial Defense Forces.
