Although the main topic of German elections is the economic and migration crisis, Europe notices in Berlin primarily the political crisis. The ending term of office of Chancellor Scholz is assessed as a little causative in the international arena, mainly due to the abstineing position on the help of Ukraine. And Europe in Trump's era needs strong and decisive leaders. One of the first decisions to make by the new chancellor is the one about loosening the expenditure rule, which will allow the largest EU economy to spend more on reinforcement.

The shameful symbol of Germany's attitude shortly after the outbreak of the full -scale war in Ukraine was Berlin's proposal to send military helmets to Kiev instead of armament.

Then Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the famous Zeitenwende, i.e. a turning point in history, a change in the way of thinking.

Today, on the official website of the German government we read: “The position of Germany is very clear: we will support Ukraine for as long as it is necessary. From the time of Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, the Germans provided Ukraine with assistance with a total value of EUR 44 billion.”

These elections are crucial for further Western support for Ukraine

– If we sum up everything we have done, including support for Ukrainian refugees, then as a country we did 70 percent of what the United States did. And we are also the largest supplier of weapons. Needless to say, Europe has made a significant contribution here. Today, even more than half of complete support for Ukraine comes from Europe – notes German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

After changing power in Washington, German elections are crucial for further West support for Ukraine. Europe is waiting for the new government in Berlin to speed up activities in terms of joint security.

– As Europe, we have to keep an American ally. We all want it. However, we need more autonomy, independence. Europe must be strong with its industry and technological defensive base. This is what we fight for – indicates French President Emmanuel Macron.

– Germany is a key player in the European Union, so our European partners look at what is happening in our country. In terms of economic significance, we represent 27 percent of the euro area value, together with France, almost 50 percent, that's a lot. And it is clear that if both countries do not cooperate, the European Union will not be able to move forward – says Daniela Schwarzer from the Bertelsmann Foundation.

The position of the main political forces of Germany regarding the help of Ukraine

The main forces of the German political scene are for further helping Ukraine – sending military, humanitarian and financial assistance. A postnazist and pro -regrelian alternative to Germany, officially supported by Elon Musk, breaks out of the uniform front.

– We say not for German weapons in Ukraine, but we would be happy to welcome our participation in the International Peace forces. You can still discuss it, but we have lost a chance. Why? Because we are no longer perceived by Russia as a neutral country – indicates Alice Weidel, a co -chairman of the alternative to Germany. Germany is almost divided to Ukraine in terms of possible sending to Ukraine.

The survey for ZDF TV shows that67 percent of the Germans supports the further sending of armament of Ukraine – of which 27 percent want it to be greater than before. The main favorite to take the position of the German Chancellor says clearly: We are on the side of Ukraine.

– Look at the photos, Mrs. Weidel, and look at people in Ukraine. You said that Russia no longer perceives us as neutral. No, Mrs. Weidel, we are not neutral. We don't stand in the middle. We are on the side of Ukraine and together with Ukraine we defend the democratic political order that we have here – emphasizes Friedrich Merz, a candidate for chancellor on behalf of the CDU/CSU block.

The Sunday vote will be hopefully watching over a million Ukrainian refugees who found a shelter in Germany.
