Extreme rainfall. The record from 1997 was broken here

It is raining in Poland and will not stop for several dozen hours. Many hydrological stations on Polish rivers have exceeded alarm levels. In Jarnołtówek, Opole, the daily rainfall total from 1997 was broken – over 161 liters of water per square meter fell there in 24 hours.

IMWM informed on Saturday morning that the exceeded alarm level was recorded at over 40 hydrological stations in Poland, and the warning level at 30 stations. The Institute reported that in the past 24 hours at the Jarnołtówek station (Opole Province) the daily rainfall total was 161.5 liters per square meter.

– That's 30 liters. [wody – red.] more than the previous record for daily rainfall from 1997 – it was written in the press release.

Firefighters from the Volunteer Fire Department from Jarnołtówek appealed on Facebook for the residents of Jarnołtówek on Złoty Potok to be prepared to evacuate.

Warnings in many regions

According to IMGW, the water level on the Biała Głuchołaska River is very high, in Biała Nyska it is currently 496 cm, the alarm level is 330 cm. In the Lądek-Zdrój commune (Lower Silesian Voivodeship), the Biała Lądecka River has reached a level of 190 cm, which means that the alarm level has been exceeded by 70 cm.

Due to the Genoese Boris Low, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management is forecasting rainfall totals of up to 150 liters per square meter in the Lower Silesia, Opole, Silesia, and Lesser Poland provinces from Thursday to Sunday, which may cause flash floods. In these provinces, a warning is in effect against heavy rainfall of the highest – third degree. The heaviest rainfall is forecast in the Kłodzko Valley.

In many regions, hydrological alarms of up to the third degree are in force. The worst situation in the coming days will prevail in southwestern Poland.
