The flood wave is reaching Nowa Sól, but it is not as fast as in a mountain flood. It will be in the area for up to several dozen hours – said the Chief Commander of the State Fire Service Mariusz Feltynowski on TVN24. The guest of “Rozmowy Piaseckiego” on TVN24 stated that “it is stable” and assured that firefighters are monitoring the situation.
The Chief Commander of the State Fire Service, Senior Brigadier Mariusz Feltynowski, was asked by Konrad Piasecki whether the fight against the flood had already ended in victory.
– No. It is stable. In Głogów the beginning of the culminating wave passed yesterday at 2 p.m., in Nowa Sól we can say that it is reaching. However, this wave is not as fast as in a mountain flood. It will last for a dozen or several dozen hours in a given area – he explained.
He assured that firefighters are monitoring the situation. – We send rescue resources, forces and means to the site in advance. We support ourselves with new technologies, we send drones for reconnaissance, we seal the embankments. If necessary, we raise the top of the embankments and prepare for a possible evacuation of people – said Feltynowski.
Feltynowski: I would not use the phrase that we took power anywhere
In several of the towns most affected by the flood, firefighters took over crisis management by decision of the Minister of Interior.
– I wouldn't use the phrase that we have taken over power anywhere, because we are here to help. We help – Feltynowski emphasized.
When asked whether the fire department should receive such powers in any other threatened locations, he replied: – The fire department is not responsible for crisis management, but if I could suggest so, I think there is no need.
– But we presented recommendations and a list of people who were prepared to do so in the event of the minister's decision – he noted.
