The retention reservoir in Racibórz Dolny is being operationally used for the first time – announced Joanna Kopczyńska, president of the State Water Management Authority Polish Waters.

On Sunday morning, at 4:30 a.m., the dry retention reservoir in Racibórz Dolny, which can hold up to 188 million m3 of water, was launched for the first time.

– It is a dry reservoir, so it has maximum retention capacity because there is normally no water in it – said Kopczyńska.

She explained that the tank is equipped with cameras and sensors that allow for ongoing monitoring of the flow situation. Specialists are working on site, who are making ongoing calculations.

– At the moment (…) the reservoir is starting to fill up – Kopczyńska said. She added that the reservoir is extensive, so the process of filling with water should be gradual. – We have to prepare ourselves that it has to take in a lot of water that flows down the Olza, water that flows down the Odra – said the president of PGW Wody Polskie. As she added, the reservoir “should take in this water and flatten it out”.

The goal, as described by President Kopczyńska, is to achieve a situation in which what flows from the Kłodzko Valley will not meet the flood wave from the Odra River.
