Mayor of Kłodzko: Repairing the damage will take five or six years

– At the moment we have a situation where the water has de facto receded from a larger, flooded part of the city, practically 85 percent – said the mayor of Kłodzko.

He said that there is still water, among other places, in the sports and recreation centre. – But today, special large pumps will be working all night to pump out this water. At the moment, residents, as well as companies that were flooded, are cleaning up. Today I issued such a message, I asked all residents and those who were injured during yesterday's (Sunday) flood to throw all things that are already suitable for throwing away, in front of the property or possibly in front of the entrance, so as not to block communication routes too much – said Michał Piszko.

He added that a preliminary estimate of the damage caused in the city is already underway. – I'm talking about the municipal infrastructure itself – we estimate it at over 110 million zlotys. It's a matter of five, six years (to rebuild it – ed.). If there is help, whether from the European Union or the Polish government, then within five, six years we will be able to eliminate what the water destroyed in five, six hours – added the mayor.

Mayor of Głuchołazy: the city has been divided into two parts

The mayor of Głuchołazy, Paweł Szymkowicz, said that a large part of the city has no water, electricity or gas.

– Głuchołazy was divided into two parts on Sunday. I say that I became the mayor of two cities: right-bank Głuchołazy and left-bank Głuchołazy. Left-bank Głuchołazy is completely cut off from the water. There are no bridges. The bridges were taken away by the water. There is only a pedestrian and bicycle footbridge, which we use to deliver food and water to the other side. There is also no way to reach the nearly 5.5 thousand residents of this left-bank part of Głuchołazy. On the other hand, it is impossible from the Czech border. Czechs they have even bigger problems, the mayor pointed out.

– My employees have already started estimating the losses today, because without it we as a commune could not apply for benefits. And thanks to the fact that a state of natural disaster was introduced today, the aid we are counting on will be granted faster and in larger amounts – added Paweł Szymkowicz.
