The fight for the bridge in Głuchołazy, which is one of the critical flood defence points in the Opole province, is ongoing. Rescuers fear that the bridge being torn off by water could cause major damage below the crossing, while also allowing the city to flood.

The services tried to strengthen the structure of the temporary bridge over Biała Głuchołaska in Głuchołazy (Opole Province). Stone cubes have been poured onto the roadway, the weight of which is to weigh down and stabilize the bridgeheads. There is a real risk that the water will damage the bridge and overflow the embankments. Due to the terrain, if this happens, it will only be able to return to its bed after flooding. Call for evacuation

That's why the mayor Glucholazy Paweł Szymkowicz called on all residents of the threatened areas (living within 200 meters of the river) to evacuate immediately. “When the alarm sirens start to howl, it may be too late,” Szymkowicz said. Rescuers fear that the bridge being torn off by the water could cause major damage below the crossing, while also allowing the city to flood.
