Storm Bert passes over France. Strong wind warnings were in force across most of the country on Sunday. On Monday, the situation is expected to be even more dangerous, which prompted the rail operator to suspend some morning services.
On Saturday, it was raging over the British Isles storm Bert, which brought heavy rainfall and snowfall as well as strong gusts of wind. Now the low associated with it is heading east, and on Monday our part of Europe will also be under its influence. On Sunday afternoon he arrived in France.
150 kilometers per hour
French weather agency Meteo-France issued strong wind warnings across most of the country on Sunday. In the southwest, in the Pyrenees-Atlantic department, gusts of up to 150 kilometers per hour are expected on the night from Sunday to Monday. In the valleys, the wind can reach speeds of up to 80-90 km/h.
The dangerous weather is expected to last at least until Monday. Level 2 weather warnings are in force in six departments in central France. They will have an impact on communication in the region – the SNCF operator has decided to suspend morning train connections from Paris to Clermont-Ferrand, where an orange alert will be in force from midnight. Trains also do not run between Lyon and Saint-Etienne. In Villeurbanne, on the outskirts of Lyon, access to city parks and cemeteries was banned.
Bert came over France just days after Storm Caetano, which cut off power supplies to up to 270,000 households in the northern part of the country. The effects of the element were removed on Saturday. The power outage also trapped about a thousand passengers on trains – some spent almost nine hours in stationary carriages.
