The Reunion island belonging to France announced the highest purple meteorological alarm degree – the element carried with it gusts of wind more than 200 kilometers per hour. The difficult situation also persists on the neighboring Mauritius.
The authorities of the French Zamorski territory Reunion announced on Friday the purple, highest meteorological alert. The Garance cyclone is approaching the northern coast of the island. According to local meteorological services, strong gusts of wind were recorded in many places.
“At the airport in Gillot, a gust at 214 kilometers per hour was observed. Similar values were not recorded here since the storm of Jenny in 1962, and the use of modern observation equipment allowed to confirm that this is a station record” – said the branch of the Meteo -French agency monitoring the weather situation in the Indian ocean.
