A 44-year-old man reported to the police headquarters in Gdańsk. He had a travel bag with him and stated that he was wanted on an arrest warrant to serve an 18-day prison sentence. He took a month's leave from work especially for this occasion. However, he will spend as much as 14 months in prison.
The matter was announced on Thursday by the deputy inspector. Magdalena Ciska from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Gdańsk. According to her, a man with a packed travel bag in his hand came to the Gdańsk police station and declared that he was wanted.
– The officers checked the 44-year-old in police databases. It turned out that he was telling the truth. They determined that the Gdańsk police department was looking for him on an arrest warrant because he had to serve a year and two months for assault, Ciska said.
He took leave, but he will be in prison longer
As the man admitted to the police, he was convinced that he had only 18 days of the sentence to serve and took a month's leave from work to serve it.
A resident of Gdańsk was taken into police custody. According to the court's order, he will then be transported to a prison.
