On Thursday, Gdańsk councilors voted a resolution on the introduction of a night ban on selling alcohol throughout the city from September 1. The city authorities hope that the new regulations will improve the safety and quality of life of the inhabitants. Until now, the night prohibition has been in force only in Śródmieście.
According to the resolution, the ban on the sale of alcohol will be in force from 22 to 6 in stores and at gas stations throughout the city. It does not include catering establishments, such as restaurants, bars or pubs, which will still be able to serve alcohol at these hours. The restriction will not cover the zone reserved at Gdańsk Airport, i.e. free shops available only to travelers who have undergone security control.
26 councilors voted for the resolution, no one was against, seven people abstained.
Response to numerous signals about problems
During the Thursday session, the Vice President of Gdańsk Monika Chabior explained that the plan for changes in local alcohol policy was created in response to “numerous signals about problems related to the abuse of percentages”.
Councilors supporting the resolution argued that limiting the availability of alcohol at night could reduce the number of incidents related to its abuse, such as disturbing public order or littering urban space. They emphasized that the new regulations would come into force in September, hence entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to properly prepare and adapt to the changing legal environment.
He encouraged to vote for Chairman of the Citizens' Coalition Club Cezary Śpiewak-Zdbór. He said that work on the shape of the document lasted many months. He pointed out to disturbing order around night shops by drunk customers, as well as the problem of eating so -called monkeys.
Katarzyna Czerniewska, chairwoman of the club for Gdańsk, also convinced the resolution of the resolution. She explained that while preparing a draft resolution, the city authorities cited, among others on the law on upbringing in sobriety and counteracting alcoholism. She emphasized that the document was consulted with district councils.
– District councils pointed out that they would like to extend this ban on an hour, but the legislator does not give us such a possibility. It is about limiting hooligan acts and vandalism and increasing the safety of residents – she argued.
She added that she currently operates 65 points conducting 24 -hour alcohol sales, 53 of them are gas stations.

Improvement in Śródmieście
Vice President of Gdańsk Piotr Borawski pointed out that after the introduction of night prohibition in the Gdańsk downtown, the number of interventions related to excessive alcohol consumption fell in this district.
– The police have repeatedly talked about the positive impact of the night reduction of alcohol sales, i.e. a decrease in intervention, and is a supporter of introducing this restriction throughout the city. In 2021, i.e. before the introduction of the night prohibition in Śródmieście, during the prohibition hours, the police undertook 3606 interventions regarding the attempt to consume alcohol, in 2024 it was 1734. The city guard took 783 interventions in 2021, and in last year – 204. Number of people taken to social emergency 2021 it was 293, in 2024 – 157 people. It just works – he said.
The Nowy Port District Council unanimously talked against the resolution
The chairman of the Law and Justice Club Tomasz Rakowski called supporters of the resolution “sobriety guards”. He estimated that you have to fight excessive alcohol consumption, but it should be done in a different way. He stated that the problem concerns primarily Śródmieście, where the night prohibition is already in force.
– You refer to Śródmieście, and this is a specific area. Half of the district councils said no, but who would listen to the voice of the inhabitants – said Rakowski and pointed out that it was a city and Municipal Police They should guard the night order.
During the discussion on the resolution, the councilor PIS Andrzej Skiba wondered if the night prohibition would actually solve the problem of excessive drinking of drinks and whether it would be better to introduce a ban in individual districts. He noticed that the Nowy Port District Council unanimously talked against the resolution.
In turn, councilor Marcin Mickun (KO) encouraged the city authorities to work on even more stringent regulations.
Rules for the location of alcohol stores
During the Thursday session, Gdańsk councilors also adopted a resolution on the introduction of the principles of location of stores selling alcohol. From January 1, 2026, they will have to be located at least 75 meters from protected places, such as homeless institutions, addiction treatment centers, social welfare homes, primary and secondary schools (except for adult schools). 25 councilors were followed by this solution, there were 8 people against.
