At the age of 73, Leszek Kopeć, longtime director of the Polish feature films festival in Gdynia, the Gdynia Film School and president of the Pomeranian Film Foundation, died on Thursday.
The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage informed about the death of Leszek Kopcia on Thursday morning.
“For many years he was not only the organizer of film life, but also a producer, publisher, writer and active cultural participant. A man devoted to culture – a visionary” – wrote the ministry.

Leszek Kopeć was born on July 3, 1951. In 1976 he graduated from the Faculty of Polish Philology at the University of Gdańsk.
He was known above his work at his work at the Gdynia Festival of Polish Feature Films, at which he operated for over 25 years. From 2015 to 2022 he was the director of the Gdynia Film Center, and from 2010 – the director of the Gdynia Film School. Before he became the director of the Polish feature films festival, he was the director of Neptun the film.
He was also a co-founder and editor of the student magazine “Literaria” (1973-1979), in 1993-1994 the editor-in-chief of the publishing house “Fokus” and a collaborator of “Reading Kurier Megaron” (1995–2002). From 2010 he published “Artistic Kwartalnik Bliza”.
In 2015, he was awarded the gold medal “Merit to culture Gloria Artis”.
