On Thursday, people gathered in front of the parliament – in the presence of police – several thousand peoplealthough initially there were fewer of them than in the previous days. Some held placards with the words on them “Your repression is your end.”

Georgian government resorts to increasingly harsh rhetoric. Previous demonstrations were dispersed by force, and a few opposition leaders were detained. On Thursday, the Prime Minister Irakli Kobachidze he again accused the demonstrators of “starting a revolution”as well as that they are financed from abroad. “We will do everything necessary to completely annihilate liberal fascists,” he said.

Shaheen talked to the opposition president of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili. She did not rule out that the leader of the ruling party in Georgia may be included in the sanctions list – Bidzina Ivanishvili. – We have tens of thousands of people on the streets, not only in… Tbilisibut throughout Georgia. We see efforts to pacify peaceful protesters, as well as an escalation of violence and attacks on opposition leaders, she said.

The US announces further sanctions against the Georgian authorities

As the senator added, The US expressed support for the Georgians “in their aspirations to continue to turn towards the West, towards joining the EU.” – We also talked about potential actions we can take to respond to what the Georgian authorities are doing – she emphasized.

On Wednesday, the US Secretary of State expressed support for Georgians' European aspirations Antony Blinkenwhile condemning the “brutal” repression of demonstrators. He also announced that the administration is preparing to adopt additional sanctions.
