Leader of the AfD party and parliamentary faction Alice Weidel was nominated on Saturday by the party's board of directors for candidate in the chancelloral elections in Germany.
“Delegates to the AfD national conference in mid-January must still confirm Weidel's candidacy for chancellor. However, this is considered a formality,” wrote the website of the weekly “Spiegel”.

Co-chairman of the party Tino Chrupalla announced his in September decision not to run for office for chancellor and declared support for Weidel. “In the last federal election The AfD has so far held back from putting forward his own candidate for chancellor” – “Spiegel”.
A few days before Weidel's nomination AfD presented a draft election program with a national-conservative tint: the party wants exits German from the EU and the euro zonecalls for a strict anti-immigration policy, advocates for close-up with Russiawants to limit the right to abortion and strengthen the so-called traditional family model.
Early elections to the Bundestag are to be held February 23. The candidate of the Christian Democrats CDU/CSU for chancellor Friedrich Merzand the current head of government of the social democratic SPD Olaf Scholz. The Greens nominated the vice-chancellor Robert Habeck.

Alice Elisabeth Weidel co-chair from 2022 Alternative for Germany (AfD). She was born in North Rhine-Westphalia, so not in the former GDRwhere AfD has the most supporters. Her father was born before World War II in Upper Silesia and also became an AfD activist.

Alice Weidel's partner is Sarah Bossard, a Swiss film producer from Sri Lanka. Couple is raising two adopted children.
