The Warsaw Police Headquarters published a several-minute-long recording of Łukasz Z., suspected of causing an accident on Trasa Łazienkowska, in which a 37-year-old man died, and of escaping from the scene of the accident. At one point in the recording, a man can be heard saying to the policeman recording him, “get behind that camera.”
Łukasz Ż. returned to Poland based on the consent of a German court under the EAW procedure. The Volkswagen, driven by Ż., rear-ended the Ford, which then hit the energy-absorbing barriers. A family of four was traveling in the Ford. A 37-year-old man died in the collision, his 37-year-old wife and children aged four and eight were taken to hospital. A passenger in the Volkswagen was also injured.
On Friday Łukasz Ż. he was charged and confessed. The district court upheld the request for a 3-month detention for the suspect.
“Get around with that camera”

He was convicted many times and was sent to prison once
Łukasz Ż. He was convicted many times: for driving under the influence of alcohol, for driving without a license, for fraud and drug possession. The courts banned him from driving five times. However, most often he was sentenced to community service. He was sent to prison once and served 11 months.
The last sentence for Łukasz Ż., also regarding breaking the ban, was passed less than two months before the accident, in the District Court for Warsaw Praga-Północ. The court then ruled that the man must return to prison – for a year and a half. However, the decision did not have time to become final.
