Mrs. Mirela's daughter from Godziszewo (Pomeranian Voivodeship) opened a candy with jelly that she had received the previous day, when she and other children were visiting neighboring houses on Halloween. – There was a sharpener in the candy. My husband and I were terrified, our children would not play like that again, says the woman. The locals wonder which of the neighbors wanted to harm the children. The mayor of a nearby town offers a reward of PLN 10,000 for helping to catch the perpetrator.
We are receiving reports from all over Poland that children have received candy as part of Halloween they find dangerous objects – including needles and nails. Several reports come from Godziszewo. – We are shocked. Not only did someone want to spoil the children's fun, but they could also lead to a tragedy. This is just shocking. We never thought that someone could think of something so terrible, says Mirela Wilczewska. The mother of a girl who found a sharpener blade in a jelly candy.
– It's unbelievable. The kids spent the whole day getting ready and making costumes. I was even struck by the fact that more people than usual were having fun on Halloween. Our children brought more candy than usual, adds her husband, Artur.
He was the one who sent the photo with the blade to the village head.

“There could be anything there”
The Wilczewski family went through all the candies that their children brought them and left only the hard ones – in which nothing could be hidden.
– We are shocked because someone from us is behind it. The children walked around the nearby houses. I don't know what would happen if the residents found out whose fault it was, says Edwarda Rekowska, the village head.
After receiving information from the Wilczewskis, she wrote on social media to parents to thoroughly review the sweets collected by their children.
– One can only wonder what would happen if a small child took this candy. And a lot of small children have fun on Halloween here, some of them are five years old – he adds.
In her opinion, someone who wants to fanatically fight against the custom of celebrating Halloween in Poland may be behind hiding dangerous items in candy.
– There is such a trend in social media. There are videos showing instructions on how to hide something dangerous in candy so that it cannot be noticed at first glance, he adds.

This year's incident made parents realize how risky it is to celebrate Halloween. – You can put something sharp in these candies, or inject poison or drugs. There could be anything there. It's terrifying that there are people around us who come up with such ideas, she said.

Jacek Pauli, mayor of the nearby town of Skarszewy, says that the police are looking for the perpetrators. – Someone could have caused very serious injuries to innocent children, could even have caused their death. This is evil in its purest form, he emphasized.
To motivate others to help find those responsible, he promised 10,000. rewards for providing information that will be useful to the police.
