The photos published on Google Street View were used in the murder investigation. The images were recorded in the town of Tajueco in northern Spain. One of them shows a man and a white bag in the trunk of a car. What did the investigators discover?
Google Street View shows photos of streets from around the world taken with a special camera from a moving car. One of them – from a street in Tajueco in the north Spain was intended to help local investigators solve the crime, according to the media. The photo shows a man standing with his back to the camera and a white plastic bag in the trunk of the car. According to the police, the bag could have been filled with the remains of a Cuban who went missing a year ago, El Pais describes.
According to the portal, the man's disappearance was reported by his relative in November last year. He was concerned about strange messages he received from a number close to him – that the Cuban had met a woman, was leaving Spain and was going to stop using the phone. According to the police, the officers “immediately started activities aimed at finding the missing person.” They suspect that the missing person may have been killed.
Photos from Google Street View are a “clue” in a murder case
According to the police, the photo was intended to help “detect a vehicle that could have been used in a crime.” As the BBC adds, the case was also worth taking photos taken in another part of the city, showing the blurred silhouette of a person carrying a large, white package in a wheelbarrow. The photo of the man and the mysterious package still appears on the Google Maps website. According to the information posted there, it was taken in October this year.
On November 12 this year, the police arrested two people in connection with the disappearance of the Cuban. This was the victim's former partner and current partner. A month later, officers found a “torso in an advanced state of decomposition” buried underground in a nearby cemetery. It may belong to the victim. The remaining body parts are still being searched for. The investigation is ongoing.
